Clue #8 - Flower Square 8 Water Lily

Here's the 8th clue for our Mystery Blanket CAL in an easy step by step. You can also find two videos for the whole clue at the bottom of this lesson!

Work 5 ch on hook size 3 mm with light turquoise.

Form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.

ROUND 1: Work 1 ch (= 1st dc).

ROUND 1: Work 17 dc in ch-ring, finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc on round - READ COLOUR CHANGE = 18 dc. Cut the yarn.

COLOUR CHANGE:

When changing colour work as follows: Before last pull through of last loop on hook, switch colour, pull the last loop on hook through with the new colour.

ROUND 2: Switch to turquoise. Work 1 ch ( = 1st dc).

ROUND 2: Work 1 picot – READ PICOT-2.

PICOT-2:

3 ch, 1 tr in 1st ch.

ROUND 2: Skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc.

Complete description of ROUND 2:

ROUND 2: Switch to turquoise. Work 1 ch ( = 1.dc), * 1 picot – READ PICOT-2, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* 6 times in total and finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc on round = 6 small leaves.

ROUND 3: Turn piece and work from WS, work 1 dc around first dc from 2nd round.

ROUND 3: Work *4 ch, 1 dc around next dc from 2nd round *, repeat from *-* 6 times in total and finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc on round = 6 ch-spaces.

ROUND 4: Turn piece and work from RS. 1 ch, in every ch-space work * 1 dc, 4 htr, 1 dc *, repeat from *-* 6 times in total and finish with 1 sl st in 1st ch on round - READ COLOUR CHANGE.

ROUND 4: = 6 large leaves. Cut the yarn.

ROUND 5: Switch to opal green. Turn piece and work from WS 1 dc around first dc from 3rd round.

ROUND 5: Work *5 ch, 1 dc around next dc from 3rd round *, repeat from *-* 6 times in total and finish with 1 sl st in 1st dc on round = 6 ch-spaces.

ROUND 6: Turn piece and from RS work 1 sl st around first ch-space, 1 htr, 6 tr around first ch-space.

ROUND 6: Work 6 tr and 1 htr around next ch-space.

ROUND 6: Turn piece and from RS work 1 sl st around first ch-space, * 1 htr, 6 tr around first ch-space, 6 tr and 1 htr around next ch-space *, repeat 3 times in total and finish with 1 sl st in 1st htr on round - READ COLOUR CHANGE = 3 large leaves distributed on 6 ch-spaces. Cut the yarn.

The flower is done. Now work the square.

ROUND 1: Switch to white. Turn piece and work from WS. 1 sl st in the back loop of first dc from round 5 on flower.

ROUND 1: Work 4 ch, 1 sl st in the back loop of next dc from round 5 on flower.

Complete description of ROUND 1:

ROUND 1: Switch to white. Turn piece and work from WS. *1 sl st in the back loop of first/next dc from round 5 on flower, 4 ch *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 1 sl st in first sl st on round = 6 ch-spaces.

ROUND 2: Turn piece. From RS 1 sl st in first ch-space, 3 ch (= 1 tr), 3 tr in same ch-space.

ROUND 2: Work * (2 tr, 2 ch, 4 tr) in next ch-space, (4 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr) in next ch-space *, 4 tr in next ch-space repeat from *-* 1 more time, and finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round. = 32 tr, 4 ch-spaces.

ROUND 3: 3 ch (= 1 tr), work 1 tr in every tr until 2 ch-loop in each corner, work (2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr) in each corner around the entire round and finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round = 48 tr, 4 ch-spaces.

ROUND 4: 3 ch (= 1 tr), work 1 tr in every tr until 2 ch-loop in each corner, work (2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr) in each corner around the entire round and finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch at beg of round = 64 tr, 4 ch-spaces.

ROUND 5: 1 ch (= 1 dc), skip 1st tr, work 1 dc in every tr until 2 ch-loop in each corner, work (1 dc, 1 htr, 1 dc) in each corner around entire round. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 72 dc and 4 htr around entire square. Cut the yarn.

One Water Lily square finished, measuring approx 9,5 x 9,5 cm.

Fasten off and work 5 squares in total the same way in the same colours - or use the colours you like.
